“Om Namah Shivaya” is a mahamantra and the power of this mantra is unimaginable.
Om Namah Shivaya means I bow to Shiva. The syllable “ya” at the end of the mantra denotes an offering. Thus the mantra Om Namah Sivaya actually means “I offer to Shiva a respectful invocation of His Name”, and not merely “I respectfully invoke His Name”.
Who is Shiva? Shiva is the last trinity of the existence of universe among creation, sustentation and destruction. Shiva controls the destruction of what is unuseful, negative and hence completes the cycle leading to the first step i.e. creation. Destruction is important for the creation and hence should be treated as important and auspicious as creation. If a creature does not die, the planet will be a chaos and will not survive more than few years.
“Om Namah Shivay” is the mantra that can calm one’s restless mind. It is accepted to be a powerful healing mantra beneficial for all physical and mental ailments. The vibrations of this mantra have vibrations of five aksharas or syllable ie NA, MA, SI, VA and YA.
