Kitchen is one of the most important part of a house. It is the energy center of the house. On the gross level it controls the physical health and nutrition of the family members and on subtle levels, it controls the mental and spiritual growth of the family members. The overall growth of family substantially depends on the quality of food & intention with which it is cooked.

But unfortunately, in today’s time, taste has become the sole driving factor in deciding what will be cooked in the kitchen or eaten.

Very few families understand that kitchen is the feeder and depicts the mother of a family. If the mother is ill, children will not be healthy as well. So, if the family is not fed well everybody in the family will eventually suffer.

Direction of Kitchen as per Vastu Shastra:

Kitchen symbolizes fire, and its correct direction as per Vastu Shastra is South-East. The other directions in which a kitchen works fine is East and North West. In case the kitchen is in other direction apart from these, the following simple remedy can be followed, which has proven to be very effective for many families with Vastu dosh in Kitchen.

Remedy:

This remedy has two parts:

  1. Part A: A quick yajna called BaliVaishya is used in traditional Hindu families and is well scripted in Hindu mythology. This short Yajna has to performed by the lady of the house before serving food to the family members. In this Yajna, a small copper plate vessel (kund) is kept on the gas burner, and a mixture of jaggery and Ghee (Clarified butter) with 5 small pieces of chapati (Indian bread) or rice is offered to fire. A total of such five offerings has to be made to Agni devta (God of Fire) by reciting the following mantras.

om bhū bhuvaḥ svaḥ tát savitúr váreṇ(i)yaṃ bhárgo devásya dhīmahi dhíyo yó naḥ prachodayāt swaha idam brahminey idam na mam

om bhū bhuvaḥ svaḥ tát savitúr váreṇ(i)yaṃ bhárgo devásya dhīmahi dhíyo yó naḥ prachodayāt swaha idam devebhya idam na mam

om bhū bhuvaḥ svaḥ tát savitúr váreṇ(i)yaṃ bhárgo devásya dhīmahi dhíyo yó naḥ prachodayāt swaha idam rishebhya idam na mam

om bhū bhuvaḥ svaḥ tát savitúr váreṇ(i)yaṃ bhárgo devásya dhīmahi dhíyo yó naḥ prachodayāt swaha idam narebhya idam na mam

om bhū bhuvaḥ svaḥ tát savitúr váreṇ(i)yaṃ bhárgo devásya dhīmahi dhíyo yó naḥ prachodayāt swaha idam bhutebhya idam na mam

By doing above five offerings, we pay our debts towards the five entities in the different planes of existence. Through this small yet important yajna, these offerings spread in the air in the form of smoke and gets received by the five entities, which in return brings health, wealth and happiness. In many houses, there is old tradition of offering the first chapati to cow and last chapati to dog. This has the similar significance of showing respect to the mother nature and paying back the dues.

PART B: The second part of the remedy is to light a diya of ghee daily in south east direction as this is the direction of fire or light a red color bulb in South-East direction.
The old Indian families had a ritual before having food, a food mantra (bhojan mantra) and an offering before having food. Hence the food for the family is protected by these mantras and offerings & also serve as a good habit of sharing food with fellow creatures before eating. So we should bring back this age old scientific technique of offering before having food, only then we can expect holistic development of every member of the family.
