Gayatri mantra is believed to be the most powerful mantra of the universe. The two reasons behind its greatness are the science behind the mantra and its meaning. Let’s explore both aspects here.
Gayatri Mantra is a prayer to praise the eternal that awakens and liberates. The mantra is highly effective because of the combination of prayer with meditation i.e. bhakti with dhyan (meditation) or substance with subtle. It’s the prayer that takes you to deep meditation.
The mantra is pronounced as:
ॐ भूर्भुवः स्वः तत्सवितुर्वरेण्यम् भर्गो देवस्य धीमहि धियो यो नः प्रचोदयात् । ।
Om Bhur Bhuvaḥ Swaḥ Tat-savitur Vareñyaṃ Bhargo Devasya Dhīmahi Dhiyo Yonaḥ Prachodayāt
Gayatri Mantra means:
“We meditate upon the radiant Divine Light of that adorable Sun of Spiritual Consciousness; May it awaken our intuitional consciousness.”
Gayatri Mantra is special because the mantra is designed by the eternal in such a way that it involves all parts of mouth i.e. throat (larynx), tongue, teeth, lips and different parts of the tongue. While chanting the mantra, the nerves of the particular part of the vocal area from which sound emits, transfers the vibration of the sound to the different body parts, putting pressure on the corresponding glands. The vibration of sound helps in stimulating and maintaining the health of the gland.
There are twenty-four letters in Gayatri Mantra related to twenty-four glands in our body. When all these glands are in healthy conditions, body awakens qualities like wisdom & intuition which is usually in sleep mode if the glands do not work properly.
It is experienced by uncountable sadhaaks (meditators) and sages that chanting Gayatri Mantra with sincere devotion clears the blockages of one’s body and soul, and meditator gets to tap into the supreme and inexhaustible spiritual energy of the universe.
