Cancer is one of the leading cause of death worldwide. The treatment of cancer in medical science i.e. Chemotherapy is painful and is not yet proved to be complete successful in removal of cancer cells. Cancer cell is developed when the genes of a cell is modified. When one or more gene in the cell becomes damaged or altered, it behaves abnormally. The abnormal cell may then multiply into number of cells. These cells do not know when to stop multiplying. A group of abnormal cells become bigger and form lump which is called a tumor.
Relying more on science, we have ignored the nature and its treatment from decades. Nature has the medicine for every disease. We have not only ignored the plant world but also failed to understand the power of healing of mother earth. Ayurveda, Unani and Homeopathy are the science of plants. These sciences work on the treatment through plants and the different parts of plants i.e. roots, leaves seeds, stems and fruits.
There are number of plants which reduces the ill-effects of Chemotherapy if one has cancer. Some plants have anti-cancerous qualities, which if we take regularly can prevent cancer. Ayurveda has description of such plants and there are still a few Ayurveda experts available in India who have the blessed knowledge and are famous for their treatment of cancer without any Chemotherapy.
Nevertheless, what we can do for sure is to plant these cancer fighting plants in our kitchen garden, and use them regularly to prevent any of our family member getting affected by the dreadful disease.
#1 Tulsi (Holy Basil):
Tulsi is an aromatic, many-branched sub-shrub with hairy stems and green or purple leaves. It is native to Indian subcontinent and is cultivated for medicinal quality all over the South-East Asia. Tulsi not only work as a natural cancer treatment, but it also help prevent it. Research shows that people who regularly consume tulsi shows great immunity and less susceptible in developing cancer cells. According to research, the phyto-chemicals in Tulsi prevent lung, liver, oral and skin cancers. Tulsi is rich in antioxidants, prevent blood vessel growth contributing to cell growth and stop spreading of cancer from one organ to other.
Tulsi heals the damage done by chemotherapy. The enzymes in Tulsi protect cellular organelles and membranes by fighting damage caused by a lack of oxygen and other toxic agents. Tulsi leaves prove to be nontoxic, easily available and have proven anticancer properties.
#2 Giloye (Heartleaf moonseed plant or Tinospora cordifolia):
Giloye is a climbing deciduous shrub commonly found in India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and China. The most used part of Giloye is its stem & roots. Giloye is used to treat skin diseases, nausea, anemia, piles and chronic fever. It is known to increase immunity and its anti-oxidant qualities. A small stem of Giloye boiled in water and taken regularly can increase longevity. Regular intake of Giloye keeps one away from any chronic disease especially cancer.
Wheatgrass works magic in treatment of cancer. It contains 13 vitamins, several minerals and 20 amino acids. It also contains the hormone abscisic acid, the antioxidant enzyme SOD (Superoxide Dismutase), over 30 different enzymes, and lot of other nutrients. SOD produces hydrogen peroxide which is super rich in oxygen.The extra oxygen molecule released by hydrogen peroxide kills the cancer cells, and cancer cells needs oxygen deficiency to grow. Wheatgrass contains chlorophyll, which has almost the same molecular structure as hemoglobin. That is why wheatgrass is famous with the name “Green Blood”.
#4 Kalmegh (Andrographis Paniculata):
Also known as bhunimba is found in India and Srilanka. Kalmegh is bitter tonic and is useful in treating fever, liver disorders, worms, blood purification, indigestion, HIV and skin problems. The roots and the leaves of the plant generally used for medicinal purpose. It is a potent stimulator of the immune system as it activates the antigens in our body. It is a significant anticancer agent and can be used in treatment and prevention of cancer. Kalmegh is commonly available in form of Tonics in Indian market
#5 Turmeric (Curcuma longa):
Turmeric is a common spice used in Indian kitchen. It grows mainly in India and other Southeast Asian countries. The dried yellow root of turmeric is ground to be used as the yellow turmeric powder. Turmeric works to stop cancer in its tracks and is especially effective to treat breast, colon, gastric and skin cancer. It has anti-inflammatory effects and is a strong antioxidant. Turmeric has very strong healing ability and is commonly used as a home remedy to heal internal as well as external wounds. It has quality to slow down multiplication in a wide variety of tumor cell types.
As said rightly, prevention is always better than cure. Let’s plan today to grow these plants around us, and have these lifesavers to protect us from cancer.
